MY REVIEW:
OMG! This book! These characters were tortured souls that have had to do things that are unimaginable.
These characters! Ugh I feel in love with both Salem and Jud and was taken on this rollercoaster ride.
“Thing was, I thought she could cast a spell with a glance. Hypnotize and mesmerize. Could feel it—some kind of magic that floated in the air. Enchantress.”
Jud is completely enthralled with Salem and has no clue why. There is an instant attraction between the two.
Salem has been hurt before and had to pick up the pieces and try to make a life for herself, so she not about to trust anyone easily again.
But Jud finds a way behind all her wall and becomes the steady strong presence she needs in her life.
“I have you, Salem.” She remained there for the longest time, her breaths shallow, barely contained panic vibrating through her body, though she leaned deeper into my touch. “I have you,” I reiterated, words coarse and raw.
He showed her time and time again that he would be there for her, even when he didn’t understand what the hell he was doing.
I absolutely loved the push and pull between these two, it wasn’t easy for either one of them to let down their guard but they found a way through each other.
They trusted each other with things that they’ve never trusted anyone with.
“Her attention turned to the empty street where her adorable daughter had gone. This little girl who’d stolen a chunk from my soul. Her eyes the color of her mom’s and her spirit the drumming of faith.”
And Jud’s relationship with Juni, Salem’s daughter was just SWOON. He’s so amazing with her and she a sassy, sweet girl.
It was such a heartbreakingly sweet story, you ached for both characters, but I loved the salvation they found in each others arms.
It was so emotional, I loved the secondary characters too and how they fit so perfectly into the story.
Helping Salem to feel welcome and comfortable and at home, something she hasn’t had for a really long time.
“Slowly, Jud edged my direction. A dark tower. A ferocious warrior. A wicked savior. I wanted him to be. To stand for me. For us. But I could never ask that of him.”
Jud was steadfast and always there when she needed him. He was such a tortured soul, his past always haunting him. Even though he made a new life and tried to be a better man it was hard letting go of his past.
“I’d made myself vulnerable. Exposed. And still, I was right here, wanting to let him hold that broken part of myself.”
These two were perfect for each other and exactly what they other needed. To heal and move forward with life.
They found a way through the darkness and broken pieces together to build a life and a family.
“This fierce, unrelenting kiss as Jud devoured my mouth. It was possession. A promise of protection. All the things he couldn’t give.”
This is one of those heartbreakingly good books that you must read! It will keep you entrapped until the last page.
Definitely worth a read, you will love these characters and mostly everyone else in the book.
This was the first book I read by A.L. Jackson and I have to say I am really impressed and thinking about reading the first book in this series as soon as I have some time.
I already really enjoy the characters from the first book in this book and want to know their story.
I would definitely recommend this book! I was raw and filled with emotions from both characters.
