Gigi and her daughter Rowen have just lost the only person they had in the world besides themselves and they are heartbroken. Ben, who was like a surrogate grandfather to them. With the loss comes the surprise of a house in a town that they have never been to before.
Gigi and Rowen decide to pack up and move out to the house, they are also hoping for a new start and maybe a place to call home.
Jess is the town Sheriff and knew Ben as a kid. Ben was the person that helped him and he couldn’t understand why Ben would give the house to a stranger when Jess had been taking care of the house for 19 years.
So Jess is an a**hole to Gigi, that house was his home and he thought if it was going to anyone it would be him. He has some misconceptions about her that he soon learns are absurd.
He starts to backtrack and they start to get to know each other. And thing start to heat up from there.
I think this was a really good start to the series. The story line was super interesting and the book kept me wanted to read all the way through, there were just some character traits in both main characters that I didn’t love.

The complete 180 from Jess, I understood why he did it, when he realized he was wrong but it seemed a little forced. Also right of the bat he was calling Gigi and Rowen his girls, this seemed a bit presumptuous to me. And he was super bossy, not really listening and doing whatever he wanted.
Gigi was a bit of a pushover, she would get super angry and Jess would kiss her and she wouldn’t be mad anymore. Eventually she was able to speak up and get her points across and that was much appreciated.
After a while though Jess started to listen and Gigi started to stand up for herself more and this is when things started to really get interesting for me.
I started to enjoy the main characters more and when they started to really spend time together and really get to know each other — yes!
I did enjoy Jess’s relationship with Rowen and how he treated her. He did make mistakes but I think all parents do, but he own up to them and asked for forgiveness.
“Baby, the way we’re going, I’ve got a kid. She’s downstairs. And yeah. Adding a couple more to our family is something I sure as hell want to do someday.”
I am definitely going to dive into more of Devney Perry books. I really loved all the secondary characters and what to see what happens to them.
So many books to read not enough time!
