MY REVIEW:
I always love Lexi Blake characters! They are so full of depth, emotion and so much more. When her books drop I can’t wait to get into it!
Her characters are always real life flawed people, and I love it! It makes you fall in love with them right away. And it was no different for Deke and Maddie!
Maddie and Deke were in love in Highschool, they spent all of their time together when they were boyfriend and girlfriend.
Then Deke decides that he should break up with Maddie for her own good. Of course Maddie isn’t ok with this and is heartbroken.
Fast forward years later and Maddie needs Deke’s help. She has to go back to a place that she’s not sure she’s ready to yet. But she really has no choice.
When she reconnects with Deke it’s hard not to feel the feelings she’s always felt around him and it’s the same for him. Only this time he’s not a stupid kid and he’s learned a lot over the years apart.
So he’s on a mission to get Maddie back, not matter what it takes. And to prove to her that she can trust him again.
“It’s always been Maddie for me. I’ve had some girlfriends over the years, and I never could bring myself to commit to them because in the back of my head, I’ve always wanted Maddie.”
I love the relationship between the two and how they work to find some common ground. Even though Maddie’s a bit resistant because she doesn’t want to be hurt again.
Deke works hard to get her back and in doing so he’s completely honest with her. This was something I really liked he didn’t lie to her.
And he had to open up with her even though he didn’t want to talk about his past with her he knew he had to to build trust.
“That’s not true. I remember a time when you absolutely needed more than I could give. I think you need more than I was willing to give now, too. But maybe what I’m willing to give needs to equal what you need, and damn my pride. Maybe I’ve decided that my pride isn’t worth losing your love. Not even close.” His hands stroked her, brushing across her like a wave of warmth. “I thought we could pick up where we left off, but we never dealt with it. I never dealt with why I really pushed you away.”
I loved all of it!! Maddie was a strong character that has been hurt and trying to cope with it for many years and she didn’t just give in. Deke’s been though a lot but didn’t let that stop him.
He’s also learned to deal with a lot of his trauma through therapy. I really enjoyed Lexi Blake showing that sometimes you need some help to handle situations and your not crazy if you need therapy. You just need helps sometimes.

WOULD I RECOMMEND:
Definitely a yes for me! This is a great book with great characters that makes you want more.
I love Maddie and Deke’s relationship and how they find a way back to each other. And the push and pull between them.
I also really enjoy that fact that Maddie was super intelligent and it worked really hard to have the life that she wanted.
I love the other characters in the book and I want to see where their stories go.
Ms. Blake has a way of making you love all of her characters and want more from them!
