MY REVIEW:

So up until this point I thought the other Cherise Sinclair books in this series was my favorite, but boy was I wrong.

Honestly going into this book I honestly wasn’t thinking much about it, I didn’t think I would really like it because I wasn’t really into reading about the Domme and sub story.

I’ve seen Anne around the other books and I wasn’t really interested in her side of D/s. But of course Ms. Sinclair flips the script on me.

Anne is a Domme that’s now by herself, she usually has a a couple of subs a time and they’re all younger than her. They’re also pretty boys. So she has a type. But she’s just broken up with her long time slave Joey and taking some time.

Ben’s been around the shadowlands from the beginning but he’s always played a minor role and we’ve never known much about him.

“She reminded him of a glass knife. Unbelievably sharp, yet frighteningly vulnerable to being shattered. And she brought out every protective instinct he had.”

Ben starts to see beneath Anne façade and starts to like the Mistress but he’s not really a slave right? But he’s willing to try things out with the Mistress.

Mistress Anne is reluctant because he’s not her usual type and let’s just say Anne doesn’t do well with change.

“Those unfamiliar with BDSM didn’t always realize that dominance and submission wasn’t a competition—it was a waltz. One person got to lead. But if the other partner was being trampled, then it sure as hell wasn’t a dance.”

Ben starts to push his way into her life and against her better judgement she lets him.

Ben is the perfect mix of protector and laid back. He knows when to take over and he knows when to let Anne handle things.

“Insecure men who were threatened by competent women were a pain in the ass.”

She’s always had to deal with misogynistic men or protect the woman men her whole life, from the marines to being a cop, so Ben is refreshing to say the least.

“Anne picked up an unopened chopstick packet, slapped it on her palm to check the sting factor—very nice—then sharply smacked the back of Sheena’s trespassing hand.

Sheena jerked her hand away. “Hey!” Anne gave her the stare that kept men on their knees and silent.

Sheena’s face paled, but she still…stupidly…tried to speak. “Listen, you—”

“Maybe your wimpy friends put up with you touching and hanging on their men, but I don’t. Hands off.” She twisted to put her hand on Ben’s stomach in her own claiming gesture. Why be subtle? “Mine.”

She’s now a bounty hunter and leads her own team. Anne’s a badass that can fight and defend herself. And Ben lets her, without feeling emasculated but just understanding that she needs to fight her own battles.

And Anne doesn’t make Ben feel like less than a man, she treats him like a partner and not a sub that she needs to do everything for, she’s actually able to relax and just be Anne.

“You’re lucky I only beat on males—with occasional exceptions,” Anne said mildly. When the subbie didn’t look worried, Anne shook her head. There was a downside to being friends with submissives. Given the choice, she’d take friends any day.”

We also got to see Anne open up and become friends with the submissives, even though she’s a Domme. I really liked seeing this side of Anne.

WOULD I RECOMMEND:

This book was everything!! I absolutely loved it!! And would definitely recommend it, even if Domme/sub stories isn’t your normal reading materials. 

Anne was nothing like I thought she would be, turns out she had a tough shell because she was so caring and hurt many times. After all growing up an army brat isn’t easy, when your moved all over and all the time.

Ben was also so much more than I expected. We always knew that Ben was the quiet security guard at the shadowlands. But we didn’t know that he had so many facets. He’s strong, dependable, caring and just a tad submissive at least for the right Domme.

I also really loved getting to see Master Z and Jessica again and getting some of their POV in where they are in this story and in their relationship.
