MY REVIEW:

Derek was introduced from almost the beginning books as a background character. He was always loyal and dedicated to his job, although a bit sad and lonely.

And Karina was introduced to us in unconditional. I liked her right away for how sweet and friendly she was to the heroine in that book.

Karina and Derek butt heads from the beginning. He thinks she’s a modern woman and just likes to play at submission so she can get what she really wants… sexy time. Little does he know Karina needs submission more than she needs her next breathe. It’s her coping mechanism and she can’t do with out it.

Karina wants Derek in a way that she’s never wanted another man, yet he can’t seem to stand her and she’s had her fair share of disgust from people so she’s not willing to take it from him. She keeps her distance while he does the same.

But Karina and Derek are forced together on a case where he need to pretend to be her Dom and her his sub. And even thought Derek may not particularly like Karina, he wants her desperately. He looks at this opportunity to have a D/s relationship with her at least only until the case is over and they don’t need to pretend anymore.

Like every book by this author I couldn’t put it down from the moment I started it. Right in the beginning learning about Karina’s past brought me to tears and I couldn’t believe the assumptions Derek about her but doesn’t know how much pain she’s had to endure. I immediately loved Karina, and how boss she is.

Derek has also had to deal with his fair share of heartbreaks and is why he judges Karina so harshly. He’s not a bad guy but he did jump to conclusions before getting to know Karina. Just because she’s a bit mouthy and has strong opinions. She maybe submissive in the bedroom but that’s where it ends.

“I like you like this, Karina. Soft. Sweet. I even like the way your jeans hold your legs together.”

Derek wants a full time submissive, at least that’s what he thinks he needs to not be heartbroken again. Karina can’t be a full time submissive that’s just not who she is.

Derek starts to see the real Karina and realizes how much of a mistake he’s made judging a book by its cover.

I love that these two characters are finally pushed together and have to get to know one another because there are so many misassumptions that’s its unbelievable.

This is a wonderful story that takes you on a hunt to find a killer targeting innocent subs.

WOULD I RECOMMEND:

I would absolutely recommend this book. These books just keep getting better and better.

I love the way Ms. Blake writes her characters and how they all have scars. They’re real people that have been through real things.

I have read stories where the conflict that the hero or heroine has seems so basic that its almost annoying, I never have to worry about that with Lexi Blake books. I know I’m in for a great book always.

All of these books can be read as a standalone but I would advise to read them in order. They make a lot more sense that way. And you can get to know all the characters and understand who they are.

Getting into the McKay-Taggart world is great so knowing who’s who is always helpful.
