MY REVIEW:

Dark Citadel is the second installment in the Club Shadowlands series and although I didn’t love the first book in this series I wanted to try another and see if it would be a bit better.

I didn’t hate the first book, Club Shadowlands but I felt that there was much left to be desired. So I went into this book hoping that it would get better.

And it was a bit better than the first one.

Kari is very repressed and was raised very modest. She knows that she’s not getting what she needs so she decides to try out the shadowlands and see if this could be something that helps her.

“I am going to give you what you want, not what your mama told you is proper. I’m going to push your limits, sweetie.”

So she’s at the shadowlands with a jerk for a date and cuts him loose and is then paired up with Master Dan.

Master Dan is definitely the tall, dark and brooding type. Hurt from his wife passing away he hasn’t been able to move forward and let anyone in. he takes submissive’s but never stays for more than one night.

He somehow finds himself caught in Kari’s web and into caring for her but doesn’t know how to let go of the past and move on. And Kari was just as taken with Dan if not more.

“Something about his strength, his understanding, his concentrated focus on her and her needs, was almost too overwhelming. Refusing to think further, she burrowed closer and let herself float away.”

Right away Dan was what Kari needed, he had a commanding presence and personality and she responded to that. But she could tell he was guarded. Dan really liked Kari but kept resisting and insisting on isolating himself.

What I really enjoyed was the chemistry and connection they seemed to find right from the beginning. Dan knew exactly what Kari needed even when she didn’t and gave it to her.

These two together were great but Dan’s back and forth kind of gave me a headache. Moving one step forward with Kari and then 5 steps back when he realized he wasn’t “suppose” to move forward.

“You’re mine, Kari,” he growled. “My sub. My woman. Mine.” Each word was punctuated by a hard thrust.”

I didn’t love that it felt like a super instant love story and that threw me off a bit.

But other than that I liked watching Dan and Kari connect and learn about each other and what the other wanted and needed even when it wasn’t spoken.

And lets not forget the super steamy BDSM scenes. All the scenes were HOT! Dan was a patient and understanding teacher when it came to all things BDSM. He was definitely drool worthy.

We also got to see a little bit more of Jessica and Master Z, and how they’re doing, which I enjoyed.

WOULD I RECOMMEND:

It was better than the previous book, not that it was bad but I can see the author start to get into her groove and I am here for it.

I would definitely recommend this book. Kari and Dan are definitely likable characters and I would love to see more of them in the future books.
